Maria Anna Scheffer
nee Thoene
1919 - 2009

Peacefully Maria Scheffer passed away while sleeping on Sunday, November 15, 2009 in Winnipeg.

Maria was born in Bad Driburg, West Germany on November 7, 1919. She immigrated to Canada in 1958 with her family. Maria was very much involved in the family business, Frank Motors and with her guidance she helped build a successful and well respected business. Her love of travel took her back to Germany many times for extended periods where she enjoyed visiting the “Old Country” but always made sure that her relatives knew she was going home as a Canadian Citizen, something she was very proud of.

Maria leaves to mourn daughters Ann in Vancouver, BC, and Irmgard (Hans Dieter) in Germany; and sons Wolfgang (Margaret) and Dieter (Laurel) in Winnipeg along with their families.

Maria will be remembered for her unique and loving sense of humor, her honesty and integrity, her hard work, her selflessness and her love of long walks. Oma will miss her grandchildren the most, as she was a kid at heart and could always find a way to make them laugh.

Thanks for the memories Mutti-Oma, thanks for your love and thanks for always being strong…you will be missed but never forgotten.

Memorial Celebration 1:30pm Thursday, November 19, 2009 at Meadowood Manor 577 St. Anne’s Road. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba 120 Donald Street, R3C 4G2.
