On Thursday, August 27, 2020, Parmes Elmar Jonasson passed away at the age of 94 years. His end, as in life, was uncomplicated and gentle. He was predeceased by Frances, his wife of 59 years, whom he never stopped loving. Parmes will be fondly remembered by son Dean and daughter Susan, granddaughter Cassandra & partner Raven, as well as the many friends and family that made up his diverse social circle.
Having been raised in a large family, Parmes left the Interlake to served in the Canadian Armed Forces at the end of World War II. There, he learned his trade as an auto mechanic and was later able to provide a comfortable living for his young family. The partnership with wife Frances enabled both children to complete post-secondary education, an opportunity that was a source of pride for Parmes. The Jonasson household was filled with laughter and lively debate which inevitably drew many friends around the kitchen table.
Parmes was able to instill values of generosity and compassion to his family. With Dean, there were many annual car/camping trips West and South, enjoying music and conversation across the miles. The problems of the world could be discussed over coffee then left behind for the road. Susan remembers best how her father could make her laugh and how he would be always looking out for her, even after their care roles reversed later in life. While Susan pursued college and work, Parmes played an active role in nurturing granddaughter Cassandra, fostering her curiosity and love of learning. They share a lifelong love of animals and music. He was a patient, giving father, friend and neighbor, always available for rides or the offer of financial support when the need arose. Parm extended his automotive expertise to countless friends, many of whom noted his kindness in their condolences.
Susan and Dean also want to acknowledge the supportive staff of Poseidon Care Centre where Parmes resided for the last 5 years. Their attentiveness and care were key in providing a quality transition and it is obvious his presence will be missed, especially by the 5th Floor staff.
Final preparations will be completed at Bardal Funeral Services. At this time, no services have been planned but a celebration of life will occur in the future. In Parmes’ memory, friends are invited to donate to Alzheimer Society of Canada, email@example.com< back to obituary listing
