After a month-long battle,Thova Trieu passed away peacefully at the Heath Sciences Centre, on February 5, 2020, at the age of 64, surrounded by love from family and friends.
She is survived by her sisters, Amara and Vineath, and brothers, Tri and Sambor, along with many other nieces and nephews.
A mother, sister, aunt and friend to all. She will be missed by many.
Thova was a selfless and kind person who could always be found helping someone else or chatting their ears off. She was constantly giving back to others, whether it was donating to her church or simply buying someone’s meal. No matter who it was, she truly cared about you and was genuinely excited for the new things that were happening in your life.
Although Thova’s English was not the best, she loved to talk and showed pride in being a Cambodian/Vietnamese/Canadian immigrant. With everyone she met, she always had something to say to them or a story to tell because she was a people person. Immigrating to Canada over 30 years ago, because of war, she brought her younger brothers and sisters to Canada and helped them start a new life. With all of them having kids, she was surrounded by love from nieces and nephews. She was the classic aunt, giving them food or bringing them new things, while asking for help with her iPad in return.
After working hard most of her life, Thova retired early at age 54 to take care of her husband, Gil. After six years, she was widowed but was not defeated. She went on to live the best life she could, encouraging others to do the same. She travelled in her brightly coloured outfits and would often make you take photos of her so she could post them on Facebook.
Thova was an outgoing person who knew what she wanted. Celebrating was one of her favourite things to do no matter what holiday. If it was Canada Day, you’d find her all dressed in red, blinged out and waiting for the fireworks. She was always ready to party and is partying now in heaven.
Thank you to all the family and friends who have helped and supported Thova throughout the years.
