Valerie (Valdina) St. Germain
1941 - 2020

We are heartbroken to announce the untimely death of our mother, sister, auntie, cousin and friend, Valerie.

Val had a rich and vibrant life full of love and laughter. She married her first love, Lenny Breau, at the age of 18, and together they had two beautiful children, Melody and Chet. She went on to attend Red River College for hairstyling and become a Master Hairstylist, and in the early ’80s even owned her own salon on Osborne Street for a while! She was a great sewer – making her own clothes at one time, and then hand sewn quilts later on. She also loved being outdoors and had her own camper for a while where she could grab some time alone. Val loved music (especially listening to her son, Chet), being with family, telling stories and having a good time. She always got spoiled on her birthday, and since everyone had the day off (Remembrance Day), she always got a good party surrounded by loved ones, even after she moved into the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg.

Valerie is predeceased by her daughter, Melody Breau, her brothers Jesse and Brian (Darlene), and her parents, Simon and Hilda St. Germain.

She leaves to mourn her beloved son, Chet Breau (Teresa), her sister Judie (Bob), and her brother Ray (Glory), along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom miss her dearly.

For months she patiently waited for COVID restrictions to be lifted so we could visit her again, but a massive outbreak in her home took her away before that could happen. It is a devastating loss, and one which we hope no other families have to endure. Many thanks to the staff at Convalescent Home of Winnipeg with whom Val spent the last several years, and the staff at St. Boniface Hospital who did what they could to save her.

The memorial service to celebrate Val’s life will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 23, 2020, and it will be streamed on Facebook Live via the Bardal Funeral Home Facebook page. Due to Covid 19 restrictions, attendance will be confined to family only. No flowers please.
